Bike Lane Maintenance Remains Continued

Jakarta Transportation Agency remains evaluate the protected bike lane in several areas in Jakarta. There was also resident's report regarding the broken stick cone on the lane.

The stick cone removal does not mean eliminate the bike lane

Agency Head, Syafrin Liputo, admitted that based on the resident's report, the stick cone will be removed from the lane. It is also aimed to prevent accident for bikers or other road users.

"Stick cone was broken due to hit by motor-vehicles. We don't know when it happened. There was also resident's report through Cepat Respons Masyarakat (CRM). The stick cone removal is applied on 13 lanes by 8,741 units or along 8.585 kilometers," Syafrin said as quoted in Jakarta Provincial Government Press Release, Wednesday (1/17).

Syafrin added that there is still 12.525 kilometers remaining which is still protected by stick cone, or 59.33 percent out of protected bike lane.

The stick cone removal does not mean eliminate the bike lane. But it is part of maintenance.

"The good ones will be maintained. The broken stick cone will be replaced with solar cell road mark," he added.

The solar cell road mark has been installed in several roads such as;

1) Jalan Tentara Pelajar by 194 units;

2) Jalan Tomang Raya by 399 units;

3) Jalan Wahid Hasyim by 208 units;

4) Jalan Cut Mutia by 104 units;

5) Jalan Sisingamaraja by 268 units;

6) Jalan Melawai by 229 units.

Related with traffic engineering and geometric repair on the intersection of Jalan Wijaya I-Jalan Wolter Monginsidi-Jalan Suryo (Traffic Light Santa), Syafrin stated that his side did not eliminate existing bike lane which is connected on Jalan Kapten Tendean and Jalan Wolter Monginsidi.

Syafrin makes sure there is zebra cross on the intersection of Jalan Wijaya I-Jalan Wolter Monginsidi-Jalan Suryo (Traffic Light Santa) to ease pedestrian and biker crossing from Jalan Suryo to Jalan Wijaya I and vice versa.

As the bike lane impacted by re-asphalting for the 2023 KTT ASEAN event, Syafrin explained has recovered four out of 18 lanes. The remaining lanes will be recovered gradually by Jakarta Bina Marga Agency.

Jakarta Provincial Government welcomes and ready to discuss with citizens in criticizing government's policy, including Bike to Work (B2W) community regarding the bike lane maintenance.

As for the information, bike lane expansion done by Jakarta Provincial Government which is stated in Main Transportation Plan of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi, has already exceeding the target.

Based on 2017-2022 Regional Middle Development Amendment Plan, bike lane to be developed was 252.1 kilometers. In fact, it reaches 314.196 kilometers since 2012 up to now.

At this moment, the Jakarta Provincial Government's main target is focusing on the bike lane maintenance. In 2023, the maintenance was done along 31.82 kilometers or seven lanes, and in 2024 is along 82.15 kilometers or 19 lanes.
